Membership

Membership is the lifeblood of any organization, and if you are a current or lifetime member of the WHA, we thank you for your support. The WHA is the nexus of the field of world history and counts on your membership to promote the field, support scholars, teachers, and students, run conferences and symposia, and act as a general resource and clearinghouse of information. Thank you for supporting the organization which supports the good that you do in turn.

If you are not yet a member or have let your membership lapse, we invite you to join or renew your membership today. The online membership database is the most efficient, secure, and quickest option for joining or renewing your WHA membership. However, if you wish to join or renew your membership via mail, fill out the membership form and send a digital copy to info@thewha.org as well as sending a physical copy along with a valid US check* to:

Membership Rates & Benefits

WHA membership runs on a calendar year basis (1 January–31 December). Any memberships processed or received on or after 1 October are automatically processed or renewed for the following year. If you join or renew mid-year, back issues of both publications will be sent to you.

Membership Benefits

WHA members receive subscriptions to WHA publications the Journal of World History (digital & also paper for an additional printing fee) and the World History Bulletin (digital & paper in USA as well, or paper for overseas members with postage payment) both published in the spring and fall. Members are also eligible for discounted registration fees at the annual WHA conference, as well as occasional discounts on prize-winning books and other promotions. All Under the Baobabs (online lecture series) are free to WHA members. Announcements for the WHA website, as well as requests for social media, are included as part of membership, as well as connecting members for academic questions and projects.

Full-Time Students

The membership rate for full-time students is $50 per year. In order to qualify you must be taking the full number of credits required by your institution to be considered a full-time student. Please upload a valid student ID showing the current year to your membership application. Membership may not be valid unless current ID is received.

Lifetime Membership

Lifetime memberships are available for $2,500. Our lifetime members help to ensure the long-term success of the association and are recognized in the on-line list of lifetime members. Upgrade to a lifetime membership.

A note on the Journal of World History

All WHA members receive digital access to the Journal of World History through a Project Muse referer link in our membership database (You must log-in to access it). Paper copies of the journal are available for an additional fee of $10 per year. This additional payment can be made via check or our store. This fee must be paid annually for each year you wish to receive a paper copy of the journal even if you have a multi-year or lifetime membership.
